The brief was a backyard that felt like a holiday without leaving Paddington. We set a rectangular pool with a deep blue mosaic interior into travertine paving, with frameless glass so the water stays the hero from the house and the lawn.
Around it we built white breeze-block feature walls with travertine-capped bench seating on a tiled base, a raised tiled water trough, and a lawn that ties it all together. Tropical planting does the screening: pandanus, palms, bamboo and heliconia, so the yard feels private and lush within a season.
Down the side of the Queenslander, timber stairs, stepping-stone paths and garden beds carry the same look right around the house.
